The Orangeville Jr C Northmen took flight for their inaugural season in August, in a shorten series of exhibition games. With only a few of the better and more established clubs putting teams on the floor this year, it was tough competition for the new franchise.
The coaching staff of head coach Drew Barfoot and assistants Taylor Hartley and Ty Mikiluk only had two on floor sessions to select their roster and put systems into play before playing their first games.
The opening weekend saw the Jr C Northmen travel to Wilmot for a couple of tournments played on Saturday and Sunday. The host Wilmot Wild entered two teams each day and Fergus Thistles played Saturday and Huntsville Hawks came in on Sunday. On Saturday Orangeville lost to Fergus 7-3, got their first point in a 2-2 tie with Wilmot Blue and lost 6-4 to Wilmot White. The Northmen returned to Wilmot the next day and picked up the franchise's first win, handing Huntsville their only loss of the season, defeating them 6-4, before falling to Wilmot White 5-2 and Wilmot Blue 6-4.
The following weekend, Orangeville hosted Fergus, Wilmot and the Barrie Bombers in a one day tournament at Tony Rose Arena. The Northmen opened the day with a 4-3 win over Fergus before dropping tight 4-3 scores to both Wilmot and Barrie.
The Jr C Northmen finished the season with a couple exhibition games, travelling to Fergus and losing 11-7, then returned home the next night to host Wilmot and drop a 10-7 score.
Orangeville showed good progress in the short time they had to gel and the young team looks forward to next year's full training camp and season.
